Platforms
A Platform Address, often referred to as a Platform, is the presentation of a talk given at an Ethical Culture Society.
At most Ethical Societies that meet in person, the Platform Meeting is held on Sunday mornings, at some, on Sunday afternoons.
Many Leaders from around the Movement have their Platforms posted on the website from their Society. This gives us the opportunity to read, listen to, or sometimes even watch Platform talks from many Leaders around the Movement. We will even be posting Platforms from Ethical Culture Leaders from the past so you can get an overview of the history of the Ethical Movement.
Please share your thoughts and questions about these Platforms.

Can Virtue Be Taught?, Howard Radest
Sun, 11/07/2010 - 7:42am | adminHoward Radest spoke at the Ethical Society of Northern Westchester (ESNW.org) on October 4, 2009 on the topic Can Virtue Be Taught? (The possibility and impossibility of moral education) (You need to scroll down a bit to find his talk.) While the sound quality isn't the greatest, I thought it was well worth listening to. You might especially appreciate the question and answer session at the end. This is Howard Radest's biography as it appeared in the program of the ESNW and you can find out even more about him on the Philosopedia website. Read more »
[Platform Discussion] John Lovejoy Elliott - Spiritual Discoveries
Sun, 11/07/2010 - 7:17am | adminJohn Lovejoy Elliott
Spiritual Discoveries
In the beginning of this piece John Lovejoy Elliott tells us, "My ultimate faith in the Ethical Movement and my hope for the future of religion in this world are founded on my associations with living men and women."I don't know what year Elliott wrote that in, but I'm guessing it was before 1933 when Felix Adler died. My ultimate faith in the Ethical Movement and my hope for the future of Ethical Culture certainly are founded on my associations with living men and women, including you who are reading this. Yet I am happy that we have ancestors to call on, to study, to provoke our own thoughts and actions.

Hugh Taft-Morales is originally a born and raised Connecticut boy. He graduated from Yale University and earned a Masters in Philosophy from University of Kent at Canterbury, England. He taught philosophy and history for twenty-five years in Washington, D. C.
He discovered and grabbed hold of Ethical Culture around 1994 at the Washington Society, eventually serving on their Board and as their president. He is a graduate of the Humanist Institute and of the Leadership Training Program of the American Ethical Union. Hugh has served as an Intern Leader in Northern Virginia, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and the Ethical Society Without Walls. He was very busy the last few years and he has plenty of friends here in this room.
Next year Hugh will continue working as a leader with the Baltimore Society and ESWoW. He is also currently director of the Washington Society’s Coming-of-Age Program, and serves as Secretary of the AEU National Leaders Council.
On the more personal side he is married to Maureen, a Latin American analyst for the Congressional Research Service and they have three (he says wonderful) children - Sean (23), Maya (17), and Justin (14). Read more »
