Keep Your Laws Off My Body
Susan Rose writes about women's reproductive rights, a subject that is surprisingly prominent in the news these days.
ESWoW Community Call with Catherine Bordeau
Catherine Bordeau joins our ESWoW Community Call to share her knowledge and expertise about women's reproductive rights.
"First, an understanding of reproductive rights includes that women should have the right to her own reproductive decision-making, including voluntary choice in marriage, family formation and determination of the number, timing and spacing of her children and the right to have access to the information and means needed to exercise voluntary choice.
Second, a more specific priority includes the right to sexual and reproductive security, including freedom from sexual violence and coercion, and the right to privacy.
In short, eliminate the control of the womb raiders. Allow women to freely and safely decide if, when and with whom they have sex with; if, when and with whom they marry; if, when, with whom and how many children she will bear. All hospitals must put patient’s rights first. Those rights include the ability of the patient to make informed decisions based on the patient’s own religious or ethical beliefs. Not the hospital’s beliefs. Or the doctors. Or the pharmacists. Or the nurses. Or even the spouses. Each patient has a right to make her own choice. Each woman has a right to choose for her own womb – her own life – according to her own ethical and religious beliefs."
Catherine Bordeau, Leader-in-Training, shared the above in a Platform Honoring Women's Reproductive Rights at the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture in March 2011. Catherine will be joining the ESWoW call on MONDAY, April 2, 2012 to disucss the current attack on women's reproductive rights. Catherine brings her own interest and expertise in this field as well as the experience of her partner who works for the International Women’s Health Coalition and fights for women’s reproductive rights around the world.
Please join us for this call and invite people who might be interested in this topic and/or Ethical Culture.
The call will be on April 2, 2012 at 5pm PT, 6pm MT, 7pm CT, and 8pm ET. The call will last about 1 hour.
The number for the call is 866-740-1260, access code 5766842#.
